FIELDSTONE ELEMENTARY

PROJECT DETAILS

Location: St. Michael, MN

Completed: August 2007

Building Cost: $18.5 Million

Number of Students: 800

Square Feet: 121,000

The communities of Saint Michael + Albertville had substantial population increases before and after the year 2000.  Analysis of their needs for learning space in 2001 resulted in the design and construction of two new elementary schools, as well as additions to other buildings and a new high school.

After completing Big Woods Elementary School in 2004, the district decided they liked the building so much that they wanted to duplicate it --resulting in the Fieldstone Elementary School.

Building entries and the main lobby provide a buffer between the academic wing and the active gymnasium and cafeteria.  The academic wing is comprised of thirty-two classrooms clustered in four classroom neighborhoods.  Between each of the classroom neighborhoods is a shared technology commons area and educational outdoor courtyard.  These courtyards serve as an outdoor reading or teaching space with seats and benches.  The center of the facility accommodates the media center, computer labs and special education, art and science classrooms.
